Teen support for Edusave Character Award

Read a letter published in the Straits Times over the weekend by an 18-year-old JC student who defends the controversial new Edusave Character Award which rewards good character with cash. In her letter she says such awards will encourage her to continue doing good. She also admits to having received several awards during her growing up years and that they made her happy and motivated.

Thought crossed my mind when I read her letter…that it just proves that one can condition children from a young age to accept whatever you want to mould them to believe. Give awards often enough and they will come to see it as a normal way of life. What a messed up world we live in now when our Government and our youth just don’t see anything warped or wrong with using hard cold cash to reward and build good character. Maybe MOE should give a new award to motivate our youth to think deeper and see beyond the surface of issues.

Hey may I find out what did the student say in the letter “published in the Straits Times over the weekend”? I really need this view of the student for my research. Thank you
